Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise 5 Primary, Secondary, Black/White and Warm/Cool Colors. ( Pt 3)

The lesson's goal is to teach students how color affects a film. In a movie, colors are used to set the atmosphere. Due to their ability to stir up feelings and have psychological effects on viewers, color is important. Hue, saturation, and luminance are the three symbols that represent color in a movie. The hue is the actual tone. The color's strength is referred to as saturation. A color's brightness refers to how pale or black it is. The hue in a movie is the director's fault.

The introductory exercise's objective is to help you comprehend how color is used in movies and how it affects them. The PowerPoint's objective was to provide instances of how color is used to influence the tone of a movie and to promote the movie itself. We produced a PowerPoint to finish this task.  I discovered that hue has a significant effect on video. Color plays a significant role in interpreting the tone and atmosphere of the movie, the type of world on which it is based, how it aids in establishing the scene or makes the character the focus of the scene.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise 5 Primary, Secondary, Black/White and Warm/Cool Colors. (Pt 2)

In this assignment we learn about secondary colors. The secondary colors, black and white, and warm/cool colors in movies were all covered in this course. Secondary colors are the first type we'll discuss. Secondary colors are hues created when main hues are combined, such as when blue and yellow create green. Green may represent things like evil and dark qualities, which is why it is often linked with villains, but it can also represent nature. Another secondary hue is orange, which is produced by combining red and yellow. In movies, orange is typically used to represent a new day, youth, and warmth.

The last secondary hue is purple, which is created by combining red and blue. Purple is utilized frequently in mystical and fantastical themes in movies and signifies fantastical or supernatural components. Many horror and mystery films use the color black because it can represent a variety of emotions, including fear, grief, mystery, and evil. White, on the other hand, can represent a variety of emotions, including love, protection, reverence, purity, peace, death, birth, and more. Because these colors give pictures life, they are crucial and essential in movies.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise 5 Primary, Secondary, Black/White and Warm/Cool Colors. ( Pt 1)

In this assignment we learned about primary collars in film. For this assignment we will  concentrated on the fundamental colors, including red, yellow, blue, purple, green, and orange. Red is the first color on the list. Films include a wide variety of colors, but did you know that these colors have significance in films? The color red is linked to strong emotions, the color yellow is related to illness and madness depending on the context, the color blue can have a positive or negative impact on a movie and be used to represent the divine or sadness, and the color pastel is used to represent fantastical or supernatural elements.

The next color on the list is green, which is a color that varies depending on the setting even if its immediate associations are with nature, danger, and evil; as a result, many villains are linked to the color green. Last but not least, the color orange. This section summarizes how basic colors are used in various films to convey concepts like a new day, youth, and friendship. Orange is the color of a sunrise and a sunset. Because they are among the most important filmmaking elements,

Preliminary Exercise 4: Analyzing Setting for National Lampoon's European Vacation PowerPoint Presentation

The setting in a film is the time and place in which the film is taking place. The main characteristics in a film are  luminosity, movement, realism, and montage. Film are created by film makers  and they need certain characteristics like communication to help direct. The film crew leadership skills fall into the same category which is artistic talent and creativity  to make the movie good but some characteristics doesn't matter as much. Setting is an important mise en scene element because it helps to set the films mood and sometimes suggesting a character's state of mind.

For this assignment we had to search up a movie and use the setting. The movie I choose was Incantation its a movie about a small family who got cursed while the mother was pregnant. In the movie the parents went to visit "family" of the father to perform a ceremony but they ended up getting cursed. On the way  back home the dead ended up dying in an car accident and the mother was  injured but not badly. The mother ended up being haunted by the sprit but she did want the curse to transfer to her daughter  she ended up putting her in foster care. Once the mother felt like the spirit wasn't following her anymore she brought the daughter back home and recorded the experience. Once the daughter came back home the spirts/ curse started acting up again and the daughter could see it. So to solve this they mother put the daughter back in foster care and killed herself to stop it from happening ever again.

The media text that was created is film, it was engaging to the audience because created a lot of plot twists, there are very unexpected scenes and more.We were told to make a power point sandpit settings from the the movie you choose and the definition of the setting . What I learned from the assignment is that each setting stands for something else important now this assignment can be done by your self or with a partner and I did this with a parter Brooke N. and Bryanna B we each took a section and a strategy is to pick a movie you know well.

Preliminary activity 3: horror genre ( Incantation)

In this blog, we  discuss how the horror genre differs from the action film genre in terms of setting, acting, wardrobe, hair, and makeup. Setting is one of the most crucial aspects of a horror movie; it should be eerie and gloomy in order to terrify and frighten the audience. In the horror subgenre, acting is crucial because the characters must look good and come to life in the movie. They must also make the audience feel fear.

In the horror genre, hair and makeup are used to show cuts, kills, dirt, and other effects. For example, if a man stabed fell down a hill and cut his troat, the makeup is used to show it and is used to show multiple effects. This is how muders or attacks are made in the horror genre, and with it the scary movies are born. The next element is costumes; it could be a monster, a cowboy outfit, or a space suit. Last but not least is Special effects make up  techniques used by filmmakers in motion pictures and other visual mediums to create an illusion that may be impractical or even impossible in a live-action shots.

Preliminary Exercise 3 B: Introduction to Genre Conventions Bubble Organizer

In a film genera is the mood, tone, charter, setting and the plot. The genre is is important to the audience when viewing the film because to allow the audience to know what kind of movie they are going to watch and what they should expect to see in the movie. Three genera that I am interested in are horror, comedy and action. The definition of the genre horror is a film genre that seeks to elicit fear or disgust its audience for entertainment purposes.  I am interested in horror films because they often explore dark subject matter and may deal with transgressive topics or themes. While comedy is the complete opposite, comedy is a genre of fiction that consists of discourses or works intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, film, stand-up comedy, television, radio, books, or any other entertainment medium. I am interested in this genre because  they are light-hearted dramas, crafted to amuse, entertain, and provoke enjoyment. The last genre that I am interested in is action, action is a film genre in which the protagonist is thrust into a series of events that typically involve violence and physical feats. I find this genre interesting because the are normally fast-paced and include a lot of action like fight scenes, chase scenes, and slow-motion shots.

The media text that is being created is film/movie. The media text is supposed to engage your audience by using enigma codes , star actors, or multi-stranded narratives to help it appeal to its target audience. For this assignment we were told to identify the key element in mise en scene and to create a bubble diagram  to state our knowledge on the genre. In this lesson I learned that there are a lot of small and unexpected things that help to contribute to the mood/ tone of the film. The person who I worked on the assignment with is Brooke N, she did most of the research and also helped with the drawing the images. We took turn and did our best to complete the assignment on time and did our best to make sure that we have the necessary information.

Preliminary Exercise 3 A: Introduction to Mise en scene Codes Organizer

In this preliminary exercise students were taught about the elements of Mise en Scene and it was introduced through the video " What is Mise en Scene -  How directors Like Kubrick Master the elements of Visual Storytelling. " on YouTube. The literal definition of mise en scene is the placement of actors and scenery on a stage for a theatrical , film or television program. The more liberal meaning of the word is a theater term for the process of deciding what to include in the scene and where it should go on the stage. It is important  because they help build the mood of the story and how should be approached for the target audience. The elements of mise en scene are Props, Set design, Costumes, Make up, Color, Lighting, Blocking, Framing, Lenses, Sound, Frame Rate, and Music. Three things that I took away from watching the video that the film director plays a huge part that every thing comes together to for the perfect shot which is mise en scene, it consists of many parts like sound, make up, set design and more, I  also learned that blocking and staging of the camera and actors, their performance, and even what we hear on the soundtrack.

Introduction to Mise en scene Codes Organizer Slide

In this assignment we tried to use Mise en Scene in a film of our choice and for this assignment me and my teammates chose the film Incantation. For this assignment we had to make a powerpoint using the code of mise en scene to anticipate and describe the movie. We has to list in detail about the setting, the costume, the lighting and more.

The image above is describing the element of Mise en scene and it is giving you some examples of it that can be found in the movie. The setting or the movie incantation changes the setting from the country to the city in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The costumes and makeup play a huge part in this movie because the use hexes, blood and more, the  make up has to be done to add wonderful and mysterious effect in the movie. In a certain scene the main character is up close to the camera with her nose bleeding bags under her eyes and the seal to protect her written all over her face the make up, lighting, clothing and camera angle adds created a specific atmosphere which send a shiver down your spine  and makes you want to see what is going to happen in this scene. What we learned in this assignment is that Mise en scene can be found in any film, it plays a huge part in films and it creates the mood/ base of the film.
