There is a wide variety of editing techniques. In this preliminary exercise we learned a lot of but I will only be telling you about 5 of the editing techniques we learned. The first one is the J-cut is a technique in which the spectator hears a portion of a scene before seeing it. Another technique is the dissolve shot, as a transition, a dissolve occurs when one scene covers another. The third technique is cross cutting, cross cutting depicts two events occurring at distinct times, but they are cut back to one at a time. The forth technique is continuity editing, continuity editing is just ensuring that one shot links with another. The last technique is cutaway editing, cutaway editing occurs when one shot in a film abruptly transitions to another. Editing is a very creating and tricky part of creating a movie. When I start to create my movie I hope to get a better understand on the concepts from trial and error.

Preliminary Exercise: Lighting
In this preliminary exercise we learned what is lighting, and the part it plays in films. Lighting is the intentional use of light to accomplish practical or aesthetically pleasing results. It is very significant in our daily life and it has an impact on our actions, feelings, and cultural development. Lighting is significant to film because it is the quality, direction and source of a mood in a film. It helps to set the atmosphere and also creates a sense of meaning for the audience. Some different lighting techniques are Frontal Lighting, Side Lighting, Back Lighting, Under Lighting, Top Lighting and Three- Point Lighting. The definition of Frontal lighting is when the source of the light is placed directly in front of the subject or object. While side lighting is placed on either the left or right of the subject subject. The definition of Back lighting is quiet different it is when the light source is places behind the subject. Under Lighting is when the light source is placed underneath the subject and the light shines upwards. Top lighting is quite similar, for top lighting the light source is place above the subject and the light shines down wards. Lastly we have three point lighting it is one of the simplest lighting set ups in the film industry . It is when you place your key light on side of the actors face create a small shadow on the opposite side of the actors face, then you place the fill light on the opposite side of the actors face to soften any harsh shadows created by the key light, and then lastly you place the back light behind the actor to help define and highlight the featuresand outline.
Examples of these lighting techniques can be found below

Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Videos
In this preliminary exercise student were told to us their knowledge about camera movement and create videos using 6 of the camera movements they learnt, each video also had to be 3 - 7 seconds long. The 6 movements that my team members and I diccidid to use are the tilt, the static shot, the whip pan, tracking, zoom shot and the pull out shot. Teammate A was in-charge of directing us and telling us what to do and how to pose. Teammate B was the camera personnel, they used an iPhone 11 to capture the camera movements in the video. Teammate c was the main actor in the videos they were also uncharge of telling using and keeping track of the video we did and the ones that we need to do.I was in-charge of making sure that the video was in the time range of 3 - 7 seconds.
The camera movement that was the most uncomplicated in my opinion was the Zoom shot. The Zoom shot is when you adjust the camera's focal length, which changes visual distance between objects to make subject seem to be closer or further from the camera than it is.
The camera movement that was the hardest to demonstrate its the Whip pan. For the whip pan we had to make the camera change subjects very quickly and make it fit with in the time range which was on of the biggest issue we had when completing this assignment. The whip pad is when the camera rotation on the x-axis that is so fast that it often crates a disorienting blur effect. The experience from working on this assignment with my production company was grate it was also a wonderful experience. The technological device that I used to complete this assignment was a cell phone.

Preliminary Exercise: Camera Movement Organizer
In this assignment we learned about camera movement. Camera movement is a filmmaking technique that causes a change in frame or perspective through the movement of the camera. Camera movement allows cinematographers and directors to shift the audience's view without cutting. Specific types of camera movements in film also can create a psychological and emotional effect on the audience.
The director is responsible for camera movement in production.
Director: Steven Spieblerg
ET
Jaws
The Fabemans
In ET on my of my favorite/ most famous scenes is when ET and Elliot touches fingers when they were in the hospital. In this scene they used the Dolly In shot.
Director: James Cameron
Avatar
Titanic
The Terminator
In the Titanic one of my favorite scene was when the boat started to emerge/sink under the water. In this scene the director used a tilt shot.
Some camera movement techniques that I already knew before completing this assignment is the Zoom In and Zoom Out. I could recognize the zoom in shot because it focused on subject/ character in the frame to grab the audiences attention. The other camera movement I could recognize is the zoom out shot when the director pulled the camera away from a smaller subject because he wants the audience to focus on a bigger subject.
